Lessons

Whether you or your student are looking to dive into more challenging music, or just wanting some additional instructional time, I'm happy to offer private lessons! For the time being, I have no studio space and would be happy to travel to you. Zoom lessons may be an option on a case-by-case basis, and I can wear a mask in your home if you'd prefer! For intermediate percussionists, I'm still exploring options for using full-size mallet instruments.

I currently have openings for the following instruments/skills:

Percussion - beginner through 10th grade

The first instrument I learned to play, percussion will always hold a spot on my musical shelf. I was a section leader for 2 years while in high school, and continued to play in college for a few years. I am still an active performer on percussion with several groups in the area. I'm happy to help with snare drum, marimba/xylphone/vibraphone, timpani, and auxiliary percussion, as well as beginner's drum set. Right now, I don't have access to full size instruments for teaching purposes, but this is a goal of mine.

Trumpet - any level (pre-collegiate)

By the time I graduated college, the trumpet had become my primary instrument. I studied throughout undergrad with Dr. Jonathan Brandt, of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and other ensembles. In addition to performing at the highest levels of chamber music, wind ensemble, jazz band, and orchestral music, I was also a senior soloist with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and a winner of the 2021 Gustavus Concerto Competition. I'm happy to teach trumpet players of any age who are looking to learn or develop their chops! I am especially interested in helping students explore the general repertoire of the trumpet and broaden their musical horizons through the instrument.

Jazz - wind instruments

In addition to my experience with classical performance, I have been featured countless times as a jazz soloist on trumpet and flugelhorn. I'm eager to help you develop your improvisation and style skills and help you find your voice as a jazz musician. I like to place emphasis on transcription, ear training, and lots and lots of listening.
